H1N1 Prevention

Spring 2009 Schedule Available Now : See It Online

To prevent the spread of flu:

  • Avoid contact with ill persons.
  • When you cough or sneeze, cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or your sleeve. If you do not have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your elbow or shoulder, not into your hands.
  • Avoid touching your eyes nose, or mouth and throw used tissues in a trash can; germs are spread this way. Following is a link on COVER YOUR COUGH that you can access and print. http://www.cdc.gov/flu/protect/pdf/covercough_hcp8-5x11.pdf
  • After you cough or sneeze, wash your hands with soap and water, or use an alcohol-based hand gel, which is available in some locations on campus.
  • Stay home if you have flu or flu-like symptoms for at least 24-hours after you no longer have a fever (100 degrees Fahrenheit, or 38 degrees Celsius), or signs of a fever.
  • Seek medical care if you are severely ill (such as having trouble breathing).
  • Talk with your health care provider about whether you should be vaccinated for seasonal flu and H1N1.
  • Do not go to work, school, or travel while ill.
