Course Descriptions

  • Adaptive Arts and Crafts

    Introduction to various art media for students with disabilities. Primary focus is on appreciation, tools, techniques and production of individual art projects. May include instruction in hand-formed or wheel thrown ceramic pieces.

    Instruction for students with disabilities to improve basic academic, cognitive and communication skills, including functional reading, writing and numerical concepts. Computer assisted instruction, use of internet and individualized program planning.

  • Cognitive Retraining / ABI

    Designed for students with acquired brain impairments. Focus is on rebuilding a "sense of self" and providing students with the tools necessary to succeed in important areas of daily life, including interpersonal relationships, work, school and community.   • Occupational Opportunities

    Designed to assist students with disabilities to assess their vocational aptitude and interests, and to acquire the necessary skills needed to seek and maintain employment. Job search instruction will include use of internet, interviewing techniques, and assistance with disclosing disability and identifying accommodations needed.

  • Physical Fitness for the Disabled

    Adapted aquatics instruction designed for students with physical disabilities. Multi-level instruction based upon individual strengths and limitations may include water exercises, cardiovascular movement and swimming.

  • Stamp Maker / Printer

    San Diego Community College District, Continuing Education, also offers an ROP class with a special curriculum for disabled students called Stamp Maker/Printer. Learn entry level employment skills in making rubber stamps, including experimentation with custom stamp designs. Includes PC and Macintosh computer instruction. Job readiness skills, teamwork, critical thinking, problem solving and communication are reinforced daily.
